Catalin Bucataru begins his studies of violin at the age of six with his parents, shortly after, he continues his studies in the “Liceul de Arte” of Craiova (Rumania) with the teacher Nicolae Vanaucec and later with GheorgheYaurum. He appears for first time like soloist at the age of ten with the “Filarmónica de Oltenia” and with fourteen he obtains the first prize in the festival “Cintarea Romaniei”. When he is fifteen he moves to San Sebastián where he continues with his studies in the “Conservatorio Municipal”. Two years later he receives the first prize in the “Festival Internacional de Jóvenes Orquestas” that was celebrated in Murcia, and the same year a Mencion de Honor in the international competition  “Grandes Virtuosos Nicanor Zabaleta” in San Sebastián. Shortly after it he finishes his high degree studies with the best qualifications.

In 1992 he becomes member of the “Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi” and in 1996 he receives the first prize in the chamber music competition “Ciudad de Manresa” along with the pianist Patxi Aizpiri, with which he continues his musical activity until the present time. Since 2001 he is teaching in Centro Superior de Música of the Basque Country, Musikene.

In 2005 he was invited by the Dean of “Kean University”, in New Jersey, where he played two recitals with piano, after which he started to give chamber music masters classes throughout the academic course.

He has participated in several occasions in the Festival Internacional de Música “Quincena Musical” that is celebrated in San Sebastián, among them most recent we have in 2005 with the String Quartet “Cadem” and in 2006 with Patxi Aizpiri (recital violin and piano).

He has developed an ample concertistic activity with several chamber music groups like: “Cuarteto Índigo”, “Cuarteto Cadem”, “Cuarteto Gala” and “Quinteto Neofusión”. With the last one he has offered numerous concerts in Spain and international tours in: France, Italy, United Kingdom, Morocco.

At the present he is member of different groups like: “Conductus Ensemble”, “Camerata Cambrensis” and Cuarteto Académico “Cum Laude”. Deputy member in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi and he has an intensive pedagogical work with the Orfeón Donostiarra.
